Takoyaki (たこ焼) is one of my favorite Japanese foods. Tako (たこ) means octopus in Japanese, and yaki (焼き) means grilled. It is a ball-shaped Japanese snack made of
flour, octopus and so on. As I mentioned in
my previous entry, I had purchased Nissui frozen takoyaki before, and last Saturday I purchased JFC Takoyaki at Mitsuwa, a Japanese supermarket in the U.S. because it was on sale for $3.29 there. :) This package contained 18 pieces of frozen takoyaki.

JFC Frozen Takoyaki |
Yesterday, my husband and I decided to have the takoyaki for lunch. When I saw the frozen takoyaki, I was really impressed at how big these were! These reminded me of Otako (大たこ), a very popular takoyaki store in Dotonbori, Osaka. Otako makes Jumbo size takoyaki. When I lived in Osaka, I sometimes had Otako takoyaki. There were always very long lines to order their takoyaki. Otako takoyaki is very popular, but I love other takoyaki stores in Osaka too such as
Kogaryu and
Wanaka, which I mentioned in my previous Osaka entries.
Anyway, we microwaved these frozen takoyaki for minutes.

Then, we topped with
Japanese mayonnaise and
tokoyaki sauce.

We realized that we ran out of
katsuobushi and
aonori which are essentials for takoyaki. Instead of aonori, we sprinkled chopped green onion over them. These were very delicious indeed. I found that each takoyaki had two pieces of chopped octopus! :) If truth be told we also bought another frozen takoyaki at Japanese supermarket that day. I'll write about it
next time.
